A FEW OF MY FAVORITE VIDEOS

HALLELUJAH

Norwegian singers, Espen Lind (on guitar), Askil Holm, Alejandro Fuentes (born in Chile), Kurt Nilsen (World Idol)

BIG JOE TURNER - CORRINA, CORRINA

American blues singer, or "shouter," whose records were imitated by white musicians in the early days of rock and roll. Singing in his youth in church choirs and informally for tips, Turner drew attention as a singing bartender, accompanied by pianist Pete Johnson, in Kansas City saloons. Discovered by jazz critic John Hammond, Turner, with his powerful baritone voice, was taken to New York City for the 1938 Carnegie Hall "Spirituals to Swing" concert and stayed on to become a popular attraction, with boogie-woogie piano accompaniment, at New York nightclubs. He began recording with top jazz musicians and touring the United States and Canada, sometimes with blues players or Count Basie's orchestra. In 1951 he made a top-selling rhythm-and-blues record, "Chains of Love," and followed it with "Sweet 16," "Honey, Hush," "Shake, Rattle and Roll," and "Flip, Flop and Fly," which were rerecorded by young white musicians, notably Bill Haley, using expurgated lyrics. Turner appeared in several movies (including the documentary Last of the Blue Devils, 1979), at major jazz and folk festivals in the United States and Europe, on television, and in jazz clubs, recording continually into the 1980s.

ROY HAMILTON - YOU CAN HAVE HER

Roy Hamilton was an American singer who achieved major success in both the R&B and pop charts in the 1950s. He was a heavyweight Golden Gloves boxer before joining gospel quartet The Searchlight Singers. In 1947 he entered and won an amateur talent show at the Apollo Theater with his rendition of "You'll Never Walk Alone". In 1954 his first single, "You'll Never Walk Alone", was on the billboard charts for 8 weeks, reaching #1. Other hits include "If I Loved You", "Ebb Tide, "Hurt", "Unchained Melody" (#1), and "Dont Let Go" (#2). His last hit record, "You Can Have Her" (# 6 R&B, # 12 pop), was released in 1961. This selection is also included on his CD Roy Hamilton Golden Classics. In addition, it was added to the soundtrack of the video game "Mafia II.

THREE DOG NIGHT - NEVER BEEN TO SPAIN

This is another favorite of mine. I saw Three Dog Night perform in Evansville Indiana many years back. I thought they were great then and still are today.

WILLIE NELSON - FUNNY HOW TIMESLIPS AWAY AND NIGHT LIFE

Willie Nelson and Leon Russel. It's 1974 and Willie is in his prime. Leon Russel is wasted. This was at Willie's 3 day long, outdoor, 4th of July picnic, held in Bryan/College Station, Texas.

A VETERANS DAY TRIBUTE - THANK YOU FOR OUR FREEDOMS

This is a day set aside to pay respect to our veterans. Brave men and women all. Charged with the task of fighting in the battles and wars for our freedoms.

The valor shown and sacrifices made by all those who have defended our land will never be forgotten. I hold you in the highest esteem and am eternally grateful that you have been there to secure my liberties and keep our shores safe.

As we reflect today upon those who fought for our freedoms let's take time to offer up a prayer for them and their families.

Words will never adequately thank you. One thing we can do though is participate in the legislative process to make sure that all soldiers and veterans receive the care and benefits they deserve. Make your voice heard and be vigilant for opportunities to let your government know we demand that these dedicated, brave, and honorable souls be cared for with dignity and respect.

RANDY TRAVIS - IT'S JUST A MATTER OF TIME

I've always been a huge, huge Brook Benton fan and his version of "It's Just A Matter Of Time" is the first version of that song I remember hearing years ago. It was then, and remains now, one of my favorite songs. Not sure what that means in the scheme of things because I have so many favorite songs that I can't even begin to count.

At any rate I came across this rendition by Randy Travis and I like this version equally. Not to be taking anything away from that smooth as honey bass-baritone voice of Brook's but Randy Travis has a remarkable voice and singing style that is perfectly suited for this song.

STEVIE RAY VAUGHN, PAUL BUTTERFIELD, ALBERT KING, BB KING - THE SKY IS CRYING

All of these great blues men are gone now except for BB King. He's still performing. I saw him about 3 years ago and his voice was as powerful as ever.

AMY WINEHOUSE - ME AND MR. JONES, LIVE

I like this simpler version. Unfortunately the video itself has lines on it but it doesn't interfere with watching it.

ETTA JAMES AND DOCTOR JOHN - I'D RATHER GO BLIND

This version with Dr. John showcases Etta's powerful, bluesy voice which only gets better with time. Love, Love, Love Etta James.

SOLOMON BURKE - CRY TO ME

Solomon Burke never quite broke through into the mainstream. This is the song he was best known for. It was always a great song although it became better known after it was featured on Dirty Dancing.

RORY GALLAGHER - OFF THE HANDLE

The late, great Rory Gallagher. Irish bluesman, rocker who was considered to be a genius with the guitar.

Here is Rory in France around 1980. Enjoy.

CAROLYN SCOTT & ROOKIE - CANINE FREESTYLE - GREASE ROUTINE

Carolyn was paralyzed at the age of four with Polio and was also diagnosed with a heart disorder. She was successfully treated for the Polio and became a world renowned Canine Freestyle instructor. Now she can no longer dance due to delayed problems as a result of both the Polio and its earlier treatments.

What a wonderful partnership Carolyn and Rookie enjoy. Here is a website with more of her story.

ETTA JAMES - STEAL AWAY

I can't think of any song by Etta James that I don't like. She's one of my favorite female blues singers.

I have to admit though that I'm such a fan of the blues that I couldn't choose a favorite whether male or female, musician or singer. I love them all.

Some of the videos I have posted keep disappearing and the links no longer work. I used to have Etta singing this on stage but it got deleted and this one is the only one I could find to replace it with.

THUNDER - THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT

Lol, sometimes when you're bad you just have to have someone to blame. Thunder is an English rock band that's been around a while.

NOT EVERYONES TASTE - TWO GREENDAY VIDEOS FOLLOW

GREEN DAY - BASKET CASE - BIZARE FEST

Quirky Song

MORE GREEN DAY - SHE

Not for everyone but interesting.

PINK FLOYD - PIGS ON THE WING - PARTS 1 AND 2

FREE BIRD (LIVE)- LYNYRD SKYNARD - 1977

Love this song. What can I say?

Dedicated to the memory of Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gains, Cassie Gains, and Dean Kilpatrick.

This concert was in 1977. It was probably performed only weeks before the plane crash, which occurred in October 1977.

BATTLE AT KRUGAR - NATURE VIDEO

Everybody has probably seen this already but I liked it so well I thought I would post it.

There is a lesson to be learned from the buffalo who gathered reinforcements and unwaveringly persevered together to ward off those who would bring harm to one of them.

ISRAEL KAMAKAWIWO'OLE -SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW

A tribute to Israel Kamasawiwo'ole and the traditional Hawaiian ceremony of spreading his ashes in the ocean in which he played.

May 20,1959 - June 26 1997

LITTLE RICHARD- I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU GOT BUT IT'S GOT ME

This is one heart rending soulful sound by Little Richard. Has Gospel Influence.

JERRY LEE LEWIS - YOU WIN AGAIN (LIVE)

In 1957 Jerry Lee Lewis came out with the 45 RPM Single "Great Balls of Fire". There is no question of the hit status of that song as it reached #1 on the Country Charts and #2 on the Billboard Charts.

"You Win Again" was side 2. Not quite as well known but popular none the less.

CRYSTAL BOWERSOX - UP TO THE MOUNTAIN

Crystal was runner up in the 9th season of American Idol. She was one of my favorites. Someone put her song Up To The Mountain with a tribute to our soldiers and I thought it was very good.

TIMI YURO - NOTHING TAKES THE PLACE OF YOU

She sang pure soul and was known for the song Hurt (1961).

VINCE MIRA - I WALK THE LINE

15 years old, this kid sounds amazingly like Johnny Cash.

SARAH MCLAUGHLAN - IN THE ARMS OF AN ANGEL

This is another tribute to our brave soldiers. My everlasting gratitude goes to those, who throughout all the years have made the ultimate sacrifice for me and my fellow countrymen. I will NEVER forget you and the gift of freedom you have given to us all.

TINA TURNER - A FOOL IN LOVE

Tina first did this song in 1960. Here again 40 years later in 2000 she does a spectacular job.

WHERE THE HELL IS MATT - 2008

Happy dance all over the world. From Matt: -- 14 months in the making, 42 countries, and a cast of thousands. Thanks to everyone who danced with me.

JASON MRAZ - I'M YOURS

This is such an upbeat song it always brings a smile to my face.

ALISON MOYET - LOVE LETTERS

Who doesn't absolutely adore getting love letters? Well, email may have replaced old-fashioned letter writing but there are some people who are innately gifted in the realm of the elegant yet fiery tango of romance. Their words are so exquisite that you can’t help but savor each and every one as you slowly drink them in.

SWEET INSPIRATIONS - SWEET INSPIRATION
